  • Single equivalent discount for 36% and 4% $ =( x+y-\frac{xy}{100} )%=( 36+4-\frac{36\times 4}{100} ) $ % $ =(40-1.44)%=38.56 $ %

$ \therefore $ Required difference $ =(40-38.56) $ %=38.56% = 1.44% of 500 $ =\frac{500\times 1.44}{100}=Rs\text{.}7\text{.20} $
