However on its return journey it got stuck in traffic and covered the same distance at the speed of 40 km/h and took 2 h more to reach its destination. What is the distance covered between village A and B? [RRB (SO) 2016]

Correct Answer: A

Solution:

Let the distance between village A and B be x km. Then, $ \frac{x}{40}-\frac{x}{60}=2 $
$ \Rightarrow $ $ \frac{x}{4}-\frac{x}{6}=20 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ \frac{6x-4x}{24}=20 $
$ \Rightarrow $ $ 2x=480 $

$ \therefore $ $ x=240km $
