Solution:

  • Let the successful and unsuccessful examines in an examination be $ 6x $ and $ x, $ respectively. Then, $ \frac{6x+6}{x-6}=\frac{9}{1} $
    $ \Rightarrow $ $ 6x+6=9x-54 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ 3x=60 $
$ \Rightarrow $ $ x=20 $

$ \therefore $ Total number of examines $ =6x+x=7x $ $ =7\times 20=140 $
