Question: Mr. Sharma distributed an amount of money among his wife, one son and one daughter and kept some money for himself. 12% of the total amount he gave to his wife and kept 22% for himself. Out of the remaining amount, he gave to his son and daughter in the ratio of 7: 8, respectively. If the daughter got Rs. 3806 more than the son, what was the total amount that Mr. Sharma had?

Solution:

Let total amount that Mr. Sharma had be 7x, Then, amount given to his son and daughter $ =x-(12+22) $ %of x = 66% of x = 0.66x Now, according to the question, $ \frac{1}{15}\times 0.66x=3806 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ x=3806\times \frac{15}{0.66}=Rs.,86500 $
