  • Average marks abtained by 40 students = 86 Total mark of 40 students $ =40\times 86=3440 $ After removing top 5 students marks. Remaining students $ =40-5=35 $ New average $ =86-1=85 $ Total marks remaining 35 students $ =35\times 85=2975 $ Now, total marks of top 5 students $ =3440-2975 $

$ \therefore $ Average of top 5 students $ =\frac{465}{5}=93 $
