Solution:

Total work $ =16\times 49=784unit $ Remaining work $ =784-14\times 8=672unit $ Let x men should be added to finish the remaining work in 24 days. $ (14+x)\times 24=672 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ 14+x=\frac{672}{24} $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ 14+x=28 $

$ \therefore $ $ x=14 $
