Question: If the fractions $ \frac{1}{5}, $ $ \frac{2}{7}, $ $ \frac{3}{5}, $ $ \frac{5}{6} $ and $ \frac{11}{13} $ are arranged in descending order of their values, which one will be the fourth? [NICL (AO) 2015]
Options:
A) $ \frac{11}{13} $
B) $ \frac{2}{7} $
C) $ \frac{5}{6} $
D) $ \frac{1}{5} $
E) None of these
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: B
Solution:
- For arranging them in ascending order, convert these fractions in decimal form,
so $ \frac{1}{5}=0.2, $ $ \frac{2}{7}=0.28, $ $ \frac{3}{5}=0.6 $
$ \frac{5}{6}=0.83, $ $ \frac{11}{13}=0.84 $
In descending order 0.84 > 0.83 > 0.6 > 0.28 > 0.02
or $ \frac{11}{13}>\frac{5}{6}>\frac{3}{5}>\frac{2}{7}>\frac{1}{5} $
Hence, fourth will be $ \frac{2}{7}. $
