Solution:

  • Let the number of parrots and tigers be x and y, respectively. Then, according to the question, $ x+y=858 $ and $ 2x+4y=1746 $
    On solving these for x and y, we get $ 2y=30 $
    $ \Rightarrow $ $ y=15 $

$ \therefore $ Number of parrots $ =(x)=858-15=843 $
