Quantitative Aptitude Ques 1998

Question: If $ 2x+y=35 $ and $ 3x+4y=65, $ then the value of x/y is

Options:

A) 5

B) 15

C) 3

D) $ -4 $

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: C

Solution:

  • Given, $ 2x+y=35 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ 4(2x+y)=4\times 35 $ … (i)

$ \Rightarrow $ $ 8x+4y=140 $ … (ii) and $ 3x+4y=65 $ On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get On putting $ x=15 $ in Eq. (ii), we get $ 3\times 15+4y=65 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ 45+4y=65 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ 4y=65-45=20 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ y=5 $

$ \therefore $ $ x/y=\frac{15}{5}=3 $
