Solution:

  • Given, average height of 16 students = 142 cm Let height of teacher be $ xcm. $ Then, $ \frac{16\times 142+x}{17}=142+1 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ \frac{2272+x}{17}=143 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ x=143\times 17-2272 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ x=2431-2272 $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ x=159cm $
