Quantitative Aptitude Ques 1630

Question: A well with 14 m inside diameter is dug 10 m deep. Earth taken out of it, has been evenly spread all around it to a width of 21 m to form an embankment. The height (in m) of the embankment is

Options:

A) $ \frac{1}{2} $

B) $ \frac{2}{3} $

C) $ \frac{3}{4} $

D) $ \frac{3}{5} $

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

  • [b] Volume of earth dug out $ =( \frac{22}{7}\times 7\times 7\times 10 )=1540,m^{3} $ Area of embankment $ =\frac{22}{7}[{{(28)}^{2}}-{{(7)}^{2}}] $ $ =\frac{22}{7}\times (28+7)(28-7) $ $ =\frac{22}{7}\times 35\times 21=2310 $

$ \therefore $ Height of embankment $ =\frac{Volume}{Area}=\frac{1540}{2310}=\frac{2}{3}m $
