Solution:

  • (a) Given that, $ x:y::2:3 $

$ \therefore $ $ \frac{x}{y}=\frac{2}{3} $ … (i)
and $ 2:x::4:8 $

$ \therefore $ $ \frac{2}{x}=\frac{4}{8} $ On solving, $ x=\frac{8\times 2}{4}=4 $ On putting the value of x in Eq. (i), we get $ \frac{4}{y}=\frac{2}{3} $
$ \Rightarrow $ $ y=\frac{3\times 4}{2}=6 $ .
