Quantitative Aptitude Ques 1037

Question: Two trains are running in opposite direction with the same speed. If the length of each train is 120 m and they cross each other in 12 s, then the speed (in km/h) of each train is

Options:

A) 72

B) 10

C) 36

D) 40

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: C

Solution:

  • Let the speed of each train be $ xkm/h, $ Then, relative speed $ =x+x=2xkm/h $ and distance = length of each train $ =120+120=240m=\frac{240}{1000}km $

$ \therefore $ $ Time=\frac{Distance}{Speed} $
$ \Rightarrow $ $ \frac{12}{3600}=\frac{240}{1000}\times \frac{1}{2x} $

$ \Rightarrow $ $ x=\frac{24\times 36}{24} $
$ \Rightarrow $ $ x=36km/h $
